Has anybody tried the new vpk system? Does it work well is it easy enough for the average gamer to work with? Info would be great don't want to use it yet till its tested.

Ok I want to try this just have a few questions. Sorry im a newb to this kind of stuff but I want to play the L4D in L4D2 Should be fun. Thank you for this great mod and once I get it going I will report any problems so the mod can be as smooth as possible.

1. Where does the VPK L4Dassets go?

2. Do we still do step 3? And if we do where do we get those files.

3. Also in step 3 what is a hex editer and how do we use it, are we altering the VPK in the L4D2 folder?

4.Ok and for the ones who renamed the VPKs in the older version of this mod do we delete those files?

5. And for the Sound files how do you get the file to merge without coping over the L4D2 needed files?

6. I need to know if anybody has VPK versions of the original L4D maps cus loose maps dont seem to work as well for me.

It seems pretty straight forward now...except for the part about, well two parts actually. For starters, when you say copy over the campaign music and NPC sounds, you mean when I'm sifting through what I will merge with/copy over from the sound folder from the previous step? And second issue...is when you say the new whitelist...is that part of the new file at top? That adds the physical maps from l4d into the game? Or am I missing something obvious here? Cause as is there are no l4d maps, I'm sure I've pry messed something up but it's fine I can just reinstall.

You need to download the file provided by Technopath and Smashman and use the whitelist and population.txt in there, also copy over the sounds folder from l4d but dont over write any sound files from l4d2.

You may also need to copy over some scene files but Ill have to edit the Tutorial again for this.

Add missions folder to l4d2.

You will need an updated Missions.txt file though for correct names ingame.

I use a program called Winmerge it lets you compare two files. That way you can only copy over the stuff thats not the same.

If you dont even know how to copy and paste then you shouldnt be attempting to do this.

To get it into your campaigns list, you'll have to VPK it. Also, for the glowing zombies, you'll probably ahve to edit your population.TXT

No its because you described it like an idiot. "Copy the folder over without replacing the files" How do you copy it over if the only option when you try to move it is "Would you like to move this folder over, Any excisting files in the folder will be replaced"

I had to do it manually but.. Its working.

Only problem I have now is I have to start it from console and I can't make a versus mode with it because its not listed.

Copy the folders over and merge them then when it asks DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE "FILE NAME" you say no, its not hard to understand plain and simple English. :|

And how can we get these maps in the addons?

Merge isn't an option for most of us I think its a Windows 7 thing. I had to download Winmerge its free and lets you compare and copy over files so its basically the same thing.

Thats because something GOES WRONG WHILE INSTALLING ALL THIS AND YOUR SCENES SOUNDS ARE MISSING AGAIN. So just copy over the scenes folder again and it should work, no we cant merge with xp or vista (or at least with my copys). The best way to do this is add the big vpk dl and do this the old way before he changed it. I copied all my pak_02 files and the other stuff over on my wifes and it works great other than the glowing zombies.

DOwnloaded the files and the glowing Zombies have gone. Now there are the l4d2 zombies. but the maps are not in the addon section.

So just here what i've done:

1. copied the maps, sounds, scenes folders from l4d into the l4d directory.
2. copied the l4d VBKs with a changed name into l4d2 directory.
3. downloaded the huge VPK file and installed it. (yes, it's shown up in the addons).
4. downloaded the files from step 3 and put it into the right directories (the l4d2 zombies are in the l4d maps).
5. opened the pak01_dir with a hex editor and changed population to papulation.
6. SnD_Rebuildaudiocache in the console.

results: maps are working, no glowing zombies, but the zombies of l4d2, but they are only startable with the console.
So where is my mistake? how can i get them into the addon list?

Edit: Got it working. For everyone with the same problem, i found this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?mnymngbetjm

Just do everything how it's described on page 1 and then copy the missions folger from the download intor your steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead 2 folder.
Just start a game and you will finde them in the addon section

Edit 2: Got the problem, that i cant move after starting the map and have to wait some seconds. anyone else with this problem and maybe a fix?

Edit 3: Found next Bug: In the first Death Toll map you are spawning in the ground texture and are not able to move. Is there a fix for that? ^^
